WBAY: "Kratz Case Inspires Bill to Strengthen Protections for Crime Victims"

By Matt Smith

Nearly nine months after Ken Kratz was forced to resign as Calumet County district attorney, lawmakers are working to make sure it never happens again.

"The fact he escaped without a public reprimand without criminal charges, I thought, was just outrageous," State Representative Andre Jacque, a Bellevue Republican, said.

The legislation would give more power to the state's Crime Victims Rights Board -- the group responsible for investigating complaints against public officials for mistreating victims.
