Chapman Professors Explore the World of Pharmacy and Inspire NAC Students (2/1/2014)
Nearly 30 Nicholas Academic Centers' students gathered for the return of the Chapman Visiting Scholars Series on Saturday, February 1, with a presentation from Dr. Lawrence Brown and Dr. Nancy Alvarez. The presentation, entitled "How to Excel in a World of Pharmacy You Never Knew Existed," explored various roles that pharmacists play in the healthcare field, examined the academic requirements for earning a pharmacy degree, and considered the importance of preparation and the power of positive thinking.
NAC Students Learn How to Find Happiness at Chapman Lecture w/ Dr. Gail Stearns (12/14/2013)
The final presentation of the Chapman Visiting Scholars Series in 2013 ended the year on a happy note. On Saturday, December 14, in a presentation entitled, "How to Find Happiness," Dr. Gail Stearns, Dean of the Wallace All Faiths Chapel and Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Chapman University, engaged students in a variety of exercises, each one designed to make them more mindful and aware of the present. According to Dr. Stearns, new research that suggests learning to be mindful and present brings greater happiness and contentment.
NAC Alumni Return to Mentor Students at 3rd Annual NAC Holiday Potluck & Alumni Panel (12/20/2013)
On Friday, December 20, over 70 NAC students filled the library at Valley High School to listen to a panel of NAC alumni at the 3rd Annual NAC Holiday Potluck and Alumni Panel event. The returning alumni, many of whom are first-year college students attending a diverse range of colleges, including Cal State East Bay, Hope College, Transylvania University, Birmingham-Southern College, UC Riverside, and Cal State Fullerton, talked to students about how they dealt with academic challenges, culture shock, homesickness, and financial issues while navigating their way through college.

Nicholas Academic Centers' 5th Annual/2013 Thanksgiving Dinner Celebration
On Friday, November 22, 2013 the Nicholas Academic Centers hosted its 5th Annual Thanksgiving Celebration at Valley High School in Santa Ana. Over 400 students, parents, school administrators, community leaders, and other guests enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and speeches from NAC Co-founders Dr. Henry T. Nicholas, III and Judge Jack Mandel, as well as City of Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido, Valley High School Principal Patrick Yrarrázaval-Correa, NAC Class of 2010 alum Jessica Aquino, current NAC senior Jose Marin.
NAC Students Discover the Rulebook of Success & Paulo Freire at Double Chapman Lecture (11/16/2013)
NAC students attending the Chapman Visiting Scholars Series lecture on Saturday, November 16, were treated to two presentations from esteemed Chapman faculty. Dr. Don Cardinal, Dean of Chapman University's College of Educational Studies, shared his journey from a troubled adolescent to a college dean. He also explored the idea of discovering the "Rulebook of Success." Dr. Peter McLaren, Distinguished Fellow in Critical Studies at Chapman University's College of Educational Studies, talked with NAC students about his experience in the fields of education and critical studies; he then examined the life of author, educator, and philosopher Paulo Freire, noting his influence on the academic world, before finishing with Theatre of the Oppressed activities.
The NAC at the 11th Annual Noche de Altares Celebration (11/02/2013)
On Saturday, November 2, the Nicholas Academic Centers participated in the 11th Annual Noche de Altares celebration in downtown Santa Ana. This marks the third consecutive year the Centers have contributed an altar to the event, which is hosted by El Centro Cultural de Mexico and Café Calacas. The video footage was shot by students in the NAC Media Club. Nicholas Academic Centers Students Learn the Science of Food at Chapman Lecture (3/13/2012)
On Saturday, March 3, in her second Visiting Scholars Series appearance at the Nicholas Academic Centers, Dr. Anuradha Prakash, Program Director of the Food Science program at Chapman University, discussed with NAC students the chemistry behind the food we eat, revealed how fat and protein molecules interact to turn milk into ice cream, examined how taste buds work, and shared how taste and smell help us determine what to eat.
Dr. Michael Shermer Talks with NAC Students about the Believing Brain (02/04/2012)
On Saturday, February 4, Chapman professor and founding publisher of Skeptic Magazine, Dr. Michael Shermer, shared his research on "The Believing Brain" as part of the Nicholas Academic Centers' "Visiting Scholar Series" at the NAC 1 Annex. Dr. Shermer's lecture challenged students to critically analyze how belief systems are built and reinforced within society.
Nicholas Academic Centers Students Learn Graphic Design at Chapman Lecture (11/17/2014)
On Saturday, November 17, more than 30 NAC students attended the latest installment of the Chapman Visiting Scholars Series, this time featuring Professor Claudine Jaenichen, an Associate Professor of Art and Graphic Design at Chapman University. The hands-on lecture focused on graphic design and typography, and challenged students to re-evaluate their understanding of how design is used to influence, inform, and entertain the masses.

On Friday, November 16, the Nicholas Academic Centers held its 4th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Celebration. More than 300 people attended this year's event at Valley High School in Santa Ana, including NAC Co-Founders Ret. Judge Jack K. Mandel and Henry T. Nicholas III, PhD, as well as City of Santa Ana Mayor Miguel A. Pulido, and a great number of our community leaders and wonderful NAC students. We would like to thank the Henry T.
