About The Henry T. Nicholas III Foundation

The Henry T. Nicholas III Foundation was established in 2006 with the goal of improving communities and individual lives through investment in Education, Youth Sports, Technology, Science, Medical Research, Victim’s Rights and National Defense.

The Foundation was created by Dr. Henry T. Nicholas III, co-founder of Irvine, Calif.-based Broadcom Corporation.

Now retired and living in Orange County, Calif., Dr. Nicholas is focusing his efforts on improving the lives of others. Over the past three years, the HTN Foundation has provided more than $2.7 million in grants to numerous non-profit organizations and initiatives.

Major grants have been provided to The Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles to fund scholarships for inner-city and underprivileged youth, Habitat for Humanity of Orange County to create homeownership opportunities for low-income families, the ACRS Foundation to provide academic scholarships to University of California, Irvine graduate students and the Navy Seal Warrior Fund to help the widows and children of US Navy SEALs killed or injured in combat or training, and Parents of Murdered Children to support the surviving relatives of homicide victims.

The Foundation’s most recent emphasis has been developing new techniques that will dramatically enhance learning, especially in the pre-K-12th grade levels. The opening of Nicholas Academic Centers 1 and 2 at high schools in the Santa Ana Unified School District within the last year has been a tremendous achievement. The Centers provide free tutoring and mentoring for promising students.

The Santa Ana Unified School District is located in the most densely populated area of Orange County. The student body has the largest percentage of English learners in the county and among the highest drop out rate.

“Motivated students in these urban areas face many cultural and environmental obstacles in seeking higher education,” said Dr. Nicholas. “For many of them deciding whether to pursue higher education is the greatest crossroads of their lives, and for most they would be the first person in their family to go to college. The Centers were established to help them realize their dreams.”

The Foundation is also fostering and developing partnerships with leading research universities such as University of California, Irvine. This is being done with the goal to develop increased educational/technology applications within the classroom. This will lead to establishing suitable models that can be replicated in any classroom.
